Box Score MOORHEAD, Minn. – The #8 Winona State University volleyball team traveled north and defeated MSU Moorhead in a quick three-set victory (25-19, 25-9, 25-17).
Led by the NSIC Offensive Player of the Year in
Megan Flom, the Warriors out hit the Dragons 46 kills to 18 kills. WSU held MSUM to a mere -.026 hitting percentage on the evening while hitting .216 themselves.
MSU Moorhead gave Winona State their best effort in the opening frame, hanging with WSU most of the set. A late run helped the Warriors take control and win the set 25-19. During set two, Winona State came out swinging hard and connected for kills on 19 of their 33 attempts, while holding MSUM to just three kills. WSU took the second set 25-9.
The Warriors built an early 8-2 lead in the third set, but the Dragons battled back to tie things up at 10-10. After a key timeout by
Joe Getzin, WSU responded nicely and tamed the Dragon's run. Winona State closed out the third set with ease, winning 25-17.
Flom paced the Warriors with 13 kills at a percentage of .440. NSIC First Team All-Conference honorees
Bre Maloney and
Becca Pagel were key for WSU once again, as Maloney recorded a double-double of 35 assists and 18 digs, and Pagel collected 19 digs of her own.
Casey Volkmann was strong defensively wracking up 16 digs, and the hard-swinging lefty,
Sidney Paulson, connected for 11 kills on the right side.
Winona State (25-3, 16-3 NSIC) will travel to Northern State (18-9, 13-6 NSIC) tomorrow, Nov. 13, for the last match of the regular season. The Wolves clinched a playoff berth this evening as they defeated Upper Iowa in straight sets. First serve between WSU and NSU is scheduled for 3pm in Aberdeen, S.D.
