WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University women's basketball team is set to host Wayne State College on Friday, December 17, as the Warriors welcome the Wildcats to McCown Gymnasium, home of WNB Financial Court.
The Warriors (4-5, 1-4 NSIC) will take on WSC (6-3, 3-2 NSIC) looking to snap a five-game skid. Head coach

Including exhibition games, Winona State has played ten games on the road already this season, with just one home contest so far.
Starting with Friday's game vs. the Wildcats, the Warriors will play at home in five of their last seven contests.
Winona State & Wayne State have a 9-9 split over the past 18 games. Five of the last six games have been in Wayne, Neb. The Warriors have a two-game home win streak over the Wildcats, winning 83-75 (Jan. 10, 2020) & 61-56 (Dec. 8, 2018).
WSU's Mattie Schimenz had a then-career-high night vs. WSC on Jan. 30, 2021, scoring 20 points in a 72-61 Warrior setback in Wayne, Neb.
The Warriors are 4-5 overall and 1-4 in the NSIC. WSU fell to Southwest Minnesota State (64-69) and Sioux Falls (54-74) on the road last weekend.
Winona State is the fifth-best shooting team in the NSIC, where they are 43.2% from the field. The Warriors shoot 25.8% from three-point land.
WSU has the third best free-throw percentage in the league (77.5%), but have shot just 80 attempts from the charity stripe this season.
Winona State boasts the third-best home attendance in the NSIC, averaging 991 fans at their home games.
Taylor Hustad leads WSU with 12 points/game, 6.9 rebounds/game, and 1.4 steals/game. She is also third in the NSIC shooting 52.8%.
Emma Fee is second in scoring, averaging 10.7 points/game. Fee also grabs 6.4 boards/game and has a team-best point-performance against Northwest Missouri State.
Emily Kieck is coming off a 21 point performance against Sioux Falls, where she played 37 minutes and went 5-11 from the field and 3-7 from three.
Lindsey Hahn had a breakout game in her first career start, where she went 6-8 from three and scored 20 points at SMSU.
The Warriors will look to snap a five-game losing skid with two home games this weekend.
What about the Wildcats?
Wayne State head coach Brent Pollari served as head coach at Saint Mary's between 2015-18, going 50-29 over that time period. WSU and Saint Mary's faced off twice in exhibition action with Pollari on the Cardinal sideline.
Wayne State is 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the NSIC. They defeated Concordia-St. Paul (75-70) and lost to Minnesota State last weekend (52-63).
The Wildcats went 3-1 in the nonconference portion of their schedule, with Black Hills State being their only nonconference loss.
WSC is 5-2 and 1-1 on the road, and they have only played one road NSIC contest this season, falling to USF 75-76.
Wayne State scores an average of 69 points/game and holds opponents to 64.6 points/game.
The Wildcats hold opponents to just 37.6% from the field and 24.4% from beyond the arc, which is second best in the NSIC.
WSC has reached the charity stripe more than any other NSIC team this season, attempting 233 free throws and making 166 (71.2%).
Kylie Hammer leads the Wildcats with 20.1 points/game, a mark that is atop the NSIC standings. Her best scoring game came against USF, where she put 31 points on the board. Hammer has scored 20 or more points in five games this season.
Lauren Zacharias is second on the team in scoring, averaging 12 points/game. She also leads WSC with two assists/game.
Kassidy Pingel leads Wayne State on the glass, averaging 7.4 rebounds/game. Pingel is also third in scoring, 9.3 points/game.
Wayne State will travel to Upper Iowa on Saturday after playing Winona State Friday night.
