Winona State finishes fourth at NSIC Indoor Championships

Michaela Pryor claims two Warrior records

Mankato, Minn. - The Winona State University women's track and field field team placed fourth at the 2021 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday.

Competing in the Myers Fieldhouse on the campus of Minnesota State - Mankato, the Warriors accumulated 57 points on several strong individual and relay team performances.  Minnesota State won the championship with 178 points, while Augustana finished second with 155.

Head coach Mason Rebarchek said, "I'm so proud of this group. They competed so well, and especially during this challenging year, they continue to stay positive and work hard every day. This is a very tough conference and fourth place is a big accomplishment."

Michaela Pryor set new Winona State records in the 200 meter and 60 meter dashes, with times of 24.71 and 7.62, respectively.  Brooklyn Schyvinck won the women's 400 meter dash with a time of 57.02.

The 4X400 Warrior relay team of Kalley Harris, Kendall Zeman, Maddy Pietz and Brooklyn Schyvinck won the event with a time of 3:51.00, just ahead of MSU-Mankato (3:52.63), who finished second.

Rebarchek went on to note, "Michaela had a huge day. Two school records and now ranked 5th in D2 in the 200.  Brooklyn and the 4x400 came up big. It's a big deal to win an event at this championship."

The top three finishers in each event and the top two relay teams are named to the NSIC Indoor Track & Field All-Conference team. NSIC Indoor Track & Field Athletes and Coach of the Year will be announced next week at NorthernSun.org.

The NCAA National Championships will take place on March11-13 at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama. The field of student-athletes participating will be announced on Tuesday, March 2 at approximately 5 p.m.
