Mankato, Minn. - Competing for the first time outdoors in two years, the Winona State University women's track and field team looked to be firing on all cylinders at the Minnesota State Maverick Spring Invitational this past weekend.
The Warriors'
Ashlie Lockington cracked the Winona State top 10 list in her respective event, and as a team, Winona State secured a second-place finish in the invitational.
Lockington's career best leap in the triple jump of 38'-00" (11.58m) was the top score at the Spring Invitational, earning first-place honors for the Bangor, Wis. product. It also is the seventh-best all-time in Warrior outdoor track and field. Additionally,
Kaylee Patnode performed well with a 36'-01.25" (11.05m) claiming fourth-place, just edging out Warrior teammate
Xana Leum who went 11.00m exactly.
Olson's jump of 5'- 03" (1.60 meters); for the standout from West De Pere, Wis. and won top honors in Mankato on the day. She also had a 5.76 meter effort in the women's long jump and was good for a second-place in the event. Lockington earned Warrior points in the long jump as well, with a fourth-place finish at 17'-11" (5.46 meters).
The Winona State 4x100 meter relay team won their event as well, with
Michaela Pryor,
Brooklyn Schyvinck,
Maddy Pietz and
Kaylee Olson combining for a first-place time of 47.71, nearly six seconds better than second-place Minnesota-Duluth at 52.16. Pryor and Pietz also scored points in the women's 200 meter dash, with Pryor earning a second-place time at 24.66 and Pietz a fourth-place finish at 25.26.
In the women's 4X400-meter relay, the Warrior grouping of
Kalley Harris,
Kendall Zeman,
Allison Waterman and
Shereen Vallabouy won the event with a 3:52.02 time, besting the UMD Bulldogs by nearly eight seconds.
Kalley Harris won the 400-meter hurdles at 1:01.39, just slightly ahead of
Kendall Zeman at 1:04.78.
Emma Breitsprecher helped Winona State claim three of the top four spots, with a 1:08.30, good for fourth place.
Lainey Lipschultz was just behind Breitsprecher at 1:08.82.
In the 1500-meter run,
Kaylee Beyer was second with a 4:43.84 time, followed closely by Warrior teammate
Lindsay Cunningham at 4:44.27. Beyer was within striking distance of the event champion, Armand Montplaisir who won with a 4:43.69.
The women's 400-meter dash saw two WSU student-athletes earn points for their team, with
Shereen Vallabouy taking second place and
Brooklyn Schyvinck third, turning in times of 56.53 and 57.36, respectively.
Michaela Pryor and
Maddy Pietz were second and third in the women's 100-meter dash, with Prior posting a 12.23 and Pietz running a 12.38 in the event.
The women's javelin throw saw
Taylor Juresh claim a second-place mark with a toss of 102'-04.25" (31.20m).
Lindsay Cunningham finished just outside of the top four in the 800-meter run, with a 2:20.28.
In terms of team scores, Minnesota State - Mankato won the event with a total score of 79; Winona State was second at 56, with Minnesota-Duluth claiming third at 31. Concordia-St. Paul (23) and Gustavus Adolphus (12) rounded out the five-team event.
