DULUTH, Minn. - The Winona State University women's track and field team finished fourth in the 2021Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Outdoor Championships, held over May 13-15 and hosted by the University of Minnesota Duluth.
The Warriors had several top-3 finishes in the Championship and the WSU women's 4X400 relay team earned the right to stand on the championship podium with a standout performance against a highly competitive field.
WSU's 4X400 relay team of
Kalley Harris,
Maddy Pietz,
Brooklyn Schyvinck and
Kendall Zeman outpaced both the University of Minnesota Duluth and Minnesota State - Mankato, running a 3:46.19 time to claim first place. Also in the relays, the Winona State 4X100 team of
Michaela Pryor,
Brooklyn Schyvinck,
Maddy Pietz and
Kaylee Olson took second in that event, with a time of 46.21, less than one second behind Minnesota State at 45.24 and ahead of Northern State, as the Wolves ran a 47.25. Both Warrior relay marks are NCAA provisional times.
Individually,
Kalley Harris turned in a championship performance in the 400-meter hurdles, running a 1:00.31, just ahead of challengers from UMD and Minnesota State, also earning a NCAA qualifying mark in the process. In the women's 400-meter dash,
Shereen Vallabouy was third, running a 55.64 time, meeting the NCAA provisional standard, while teammate
Brooklyn Schyvinck was fourth with a 55.69, also a provisional mark. Also taking third in a sprint was
Michaela Pryor, running a 24.04 time.
In terms of team scoring, the University of Mary won the 2021 NSIC Women's Outdoor Championship with 174 points, followed by Minnesota State with 157, the only two teams to reach double digits. Augustana University was third with 90 points, while Winona State earned fourth place, finished with 69.50, edging out Northern State who had 67.
Next up on the Warriors schedule is the 2021 NCAA Division II Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan on May 27-29.
