Warrior Game Day : Women's Basketball

WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University women's basketball team will look stretch their winning streak to three games when they host the University of Mary on Friday, Jan. 27 at 5:30pm.

The Warriors (9-9, 6-8 NSIC) will see the Marauders (10-12, 4-9 NSIC) for the first time since 2020, when the two teams tangled on Feb. 8. UMary won that matchup 82-65 and the programs have split the last sixteen contests evenly at eight wins apiece.

Winona State Warriors:

The Warriors are currently 9-9 overall and 6-8 in the NSIC. Last weekend, WSU went on the road and earned two important road wins over MSU Moorhead and Northern State.

In Friday's 75-66 win over MSUM, the Warriors went a perfect 14-14 from the free-throw line. It was the first time WSU shot 100% from the line in a game with at least 10 attempts since March 12, 2016 when they went 15-15 against Emporia State in the NCAA Tournament.

Winona State currently leads the NSIC with a 0.779 free-throw percentage, making 148 of 190 attempts from the charity stripe this season.

Emily Kieck leads the way from the free-throw line, as she has knocked down a league second-best 86.2% of her free-throws this season.

Taylor Hustad is the NSIC-leader in field goal percentage, knocking down 55.6% of shots from the field, while leading the Warriors with 12.8 points/game. She is also seventh in the conference averaging 7.2 rebounds per game.

Kieck (10.4 ppg), Emma Fee (9.8 ppg), Caitlin Riley (9.2 ppg), and Mattie Schimenz (7.6 ppg) round out the scoring for the starting five.

Caitlin Riley is fourth in the NSIC in 3-point field goals made per game with 2.2. She has made 40 3-pointers this season on 118 attempts.

Emily Kieck leads WSU with 3.8 assists/game, a mark that is eighth in the conference.

Winona State will host UMary on Friday at 5:30pm and then Minot State on Saturday at 3:30pm to wrap up NSIC cross-division games.


More on the Marauders:
 

The Marauders are 10-12 overall and 4-9 within the NSIC. Last weekend UMary dropped home contests to Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State, each by double figures.

UMary features the sixth-highest scoring offense in the NSIC, averaging 69.5 points each game. On the defensive end, they are allowing 66.4 points each game to their opponents.

University of Mary are scoring the ball efficiently, knocking down 43.4% of shots from the field and 37.8% from deep, which is the best mark in the league. The Marauders like the deep ball as they average 7.6 3-pointers a game.

The Marauders have shown the ability to score, eclipsing the 80-point mark in four different games, including a 99 point performance against Valley City State on Dec. 30.

Lexie Schneider leads UMary with 8.0 rebounds/game and 12.5 points/game. She is second in the NSIC with 168 total rebounds.

Megan Zander (11.3) and Megan Voit (10.9) also average double-digit scoring for the Marauders.

Voit leads the NSIC with 61 3-pointers made, sinking an average of 2.9 shots from deep each game. She knocked down six 3-pointers against Minot State, which is tied for most 3s made in a game in the NSIC this season.

UMary will take on the Warriors Friday evening before heading to Upper Iowa on Saturday Jan. 29 to wrap up cross-division play.
