Lindsay Cunningham wins Central Region Championship, Warriors place fifth

JOPLIN, Mo. – Lindsay Cunningham repeated as the Central Region Champion to lead Winona State at the NCAA Division II Central Region Championships today.
 
Cunningham, who held an impressive 24-second lead at the halfway point of the race, finished the 6k 44 seconds ahead of the pack with a time of 19:34.8 to earn individual champion honors.
 
Kaylee Beyer finished just three spots behind, running to a time of 20:19.6 and earning a fourth-place finish. McKenna Taylor finished in 12th with a time of 20:47.4.
 
Cunningham, Beyer, and Taylor were the only three individuals from any competing school to all finish inside the top 12 to lead Winona State to a 5th place finish.
 
Sophia Taarud was the fourth Warrior to cross the finish line, completing the race in 21:32.6 and earning a top-30 finish. Rhya Brandemuehl ran to a time of 22:55.0 to complete the scoring for WSU.
 
Andrea Fromelt and Mara Talabac rounded out the Winona State runners with times of 23:04.9 and 23:30.6.
 
Augustana University earned team championship honors, followed by Pittsburg State and Minnesota State, Mankato.
 
The top three teams automatically advance to the NCAA Division II Championship Finals. The top two individuals, or any top five finishers who are not part of a qualifying team will automatically advance to the Championship Finals as well.
 
Selections for the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships will be released on Monday, Nov. 21. The Championships are set for Dec. 2 in University Place, Wash.
