WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University baseball team has earned the 2021-22 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award, marking the seventh consecutive year the team has been honored for their collective work in the classroom.
Winona State is one of nine Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) programs to receive the award and marks a fitting tribute to former head coach Kyle Poock, who retired in June after 20 years at the helm. To earn the award, a program must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale during the 2021-22 academic year and the head coach must be a member of the ABCA. The American Baseball Coaches Association has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes.
Warrior baseball has earned the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award every year since 2015-16, joining Northern State as one of only two NSIC teams to have been honored in each of the past seven seasons. Winona State was one of nearly 100 NCAA Division II teams to claim the award this summer.
