BURNSVILLE, Minn. –
Alessandro Trenta earned medalist honors while leading Winona State to the team title at the Super Region Preview and was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Men's Golfer of the Week.
Trenta, a freshman from Killwangen, Switzerland, was victorious in his first-ever collegiate golf tournament, which was played at The Bridges Golf Course in Winona, Minn. Rounds of 73 (+2) and 68 (-3) by Trenta put him atop the leaderboard by two strokes to win the event with a one-under par 141.
Aided by an eagle on the par five, 518-yard fifth hole, Trenta finished his opening round two strokes off the lead. A nearly perfect second round with 15 pars and three birdies propelled Trenta to a first-place finish.
Over the 36 holes, Trenta carded a remarkable 29 pars, four birdies, and one eagle while only recording two holes over par for the whole tournament.
Trenta was a key performer for the Warriors, who won the event by 12 strokes in a field consisting of the top teams from the region.
Winona State will be in action next when they travel to Bemidji State on Sept. 12-13 at the BSU Invitational.
