MANKATO, Minn. - The Winona State University track and field team earned three individual first-place finishes at the Mark Schuck Open hosted by Minnesota State.
Competing on Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28, Winona State was led by
McKenna Taylor,
Kaylee Beyer and
Lindsay Cunningham, all of whom took top honors in their respective events.
Lindsay Cunningham set a Myers Field House facility record in the women's 5,000 meters, running a time of 16:06.16. Cunningham's record saw beat College of St. Benedict's Fiona Smith (16:36.54) by over 30 seconds.
McKenna Taylor's time of 10:03.16 in the women's 3,000 meters also earned WSU 10 points in the team standings. Taylor was joined in the top-5 by Warrior teammate
Sophia Taarud, who finished fifth with a time of 10:20.83.
Kaylee Beyer ran the women's 1 mile race in 4:56.34, claiming championship honors. Beyer bested a trio of Augustana University competitors, including runner-up Nicolette Schmidt, who was second with a time of 4:59.27.
Winona State also saw
Xana Leum finish fifth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.92) while
Ashlie Lockington was the top Warrior field event athlete, claiming eighth in the women's long jump with a 5.26 meter (17-03.25) effort.
WSU finished seventh among 16 teams overall, collecting 47 points. Host Minnesota State won the event with 222.5 points.
The Warriors are back in action on Friday, Feb. 3 when they travel to Lewis University.
