SMITHVILLE, Mo. – The Winona State University women's golf team earned second place at the 2023 NSIC Women's Golf Championships with a three-round score of 941 (300-322-319).
The second-place finish is the best result for the Warriors at the NSIC Championships since 2007.
Winona State led the field after a first-round score of 300 but dropped to second after shooting a 322 on day two. WSU tied for the lowest round during day three with a 319 but Augustana held on for the team championship, edging out Winona State by nine strokes. Isabella Dory from Concordia-St. Paul took medalist honors with a 222 (+6).
Individually,
Carly Moon led WSU and earned NSIC All-Tournament honors after finishing fourth overall. Moon opened the championships with an even-par 72 and led the field after the first round. Second and third round scores of 79 (+7) and 80 (+8) led Moon to a total score of 231 (+15).
Ellie Behring finished tied for seventh, carding a three-day total of 234 (+18). Behring shot 76 (+4) during the first round and followed it up with a 77 (+5) during day two. A final round score of 81 (+9) led Behring to the top-10 finish.
Rachel Henderson also finished inside the top 10, taking ninth place. Henderson carded rounds of 76, 82, and 77 to card a tournament score of 235 (+19).
Toni Baldwin was the next Warrior on the leaderboard, finishing 16th with a 245 (+29). Baldwin shot a 76 (+4) during the first round and followed it up with rounds of 84 and 85 to close out the championships.
Marah Rothgarn rounded out the WSU lineup and earned a top-30 finish. Rothgarn carded rounds of 88, 85, and 81 to shoot a 254 (+38) for the tournament.
Jeff Straight and the Warriors end their season with five top-three finishes and one championship at The Watkins Invitational.
