DES MOINES, Iowa - The Winona State University track and field team was represented by a quartet of athletes at the 113th Drake Relays, held in Des Moines, Iowa over April 27 - May 1.
Brooklyn Schyvinck set a new Winona State record in the 400-meter hurdle race on running the event in a time of 59.53. Schyvinck, a senior from Reedsburg, Wis., was one of four WSU student-athletes competing in the Drake Relays over the weekend. Schyvinck's mark surpasses the 59.98 ran by Deidra Faber in 2005 and Kalley Harris' 1:00.21 ran in 2021.
Joining Schyvinck in setting a new Winona State mark was
Lindsay Cunningham, running a time of 15.45.91 in the seeded women's 5,000-meter race on Thursday, April 28, in Drake Stadium. Cunningham's time also establishes a new top mark in the 2023 NCAA Division II track and field settings, jumping ahead of Florance Uwajeneza of West Texas A&M who ran a 16:07.13, earlier this spring.
Also competing at the Drake Relays were
McKenna Taylor, running a 17:26.77 on Thursday, April 27 in the 5000-meters and
Kaylee Beyer who clocked a 4:28.00 in the women's 1500-meters on Friday, April 28. Taylor owns the third-best 5000-meter time in Warrior history at 17:19.03 while Beyer's best 1500-meter mark of 4:22.26 is the top WSU time ever.
