Winona State football adds Bryce Cross to staff

WINONA, Minn. – Winona State University head football coach Brian Bergstrom has announced the addition of a new coach to the WSU football program.

Bryce Cross is joining Bergstrom and the Warrior staff; Cross was most recently on staff at Western Illinois University.

Coach Bergstrom noted, "We are extremely fortunate to add Bryce Cross to our coaching staff.  We know we have the right man and coach for the position.  He is an incredible person, has a high football IQ, is a hard worker, and is incredibly relational.  We are excited to see his young coaching career blossom at Winona State."

For the Leathernecks, Cross served in various roles related to recruiting, camps, and working with the Macomb-area high school football programs from January 2022 through November 2023. Also, while at Western Illinois, Cross held an internship focusing on equipment and team apparel before joining the WIU coaching staff.

The Atlanta, Ga. native also played at Western Illinois, appearing in 31 games between 2019 and 2022. The 5'11" defensive back tallied 81 total tackles in his WIU career, including 58 in his final campaign, the fifth-highest amount on the team following the 2022 season.

The Winona State University football team will kick off the 2023 Warrior season on the road at Saginaw Valley State in a non-conference tilt on Thursday, August 31.  The Warriors will open NSIC play at home against Concordia University, St. Paul, on Saturday, September 9, at 1 p.m. in Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium.
