WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University women's basketball team will take part in the longest road trip in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) competition this week, traveling to the University of Mary on Friday, January 19, and to Minot State University on Saturday, January 20. The two North Dakota contests mark the shift in game times within NSIC play; the WSU women's team will play at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Winona State (5-10, 4-6 NSIC) face UMary on Friday and Minot State looking to start a streak to the postseason, and will build on a win at Bemidji State last Saturday. The games against the Marauders (11-7, 7-3 NSIC) and Beavers (5-14, 3-8 NSIC) will feature opponents at opposite ends of the NSIC standings for head coach Ana Wurtz and her team. UMary enters the weekend winning six of their last seven games, while Minot State has dropped six of their last eight games coming into the weekend.
Leading a balanced attack for the Warriors is Emma Carpenter, leading the team in points per game (9.1), and tied for the team lead in assists 922) and steals (11). Warrior teammate and point guard Olivia Gamoke is second on the squad with 8.8 points per game and is tied with Carpenter in both assists and steals.
