BISMARCK, N.D. - The Winona State University women's volleyball team faced off against the University of Mary on the road on Friday evening. The Warriors battled all five sets behind
Kenna Kornely and
Kylie Welch leading the way.
Stat Leaders:
Set one:
The Warriors battled back and forth with the Marauders early before gaining the first significant lead of the match at 16-12 with a kill by
Jayda Berg. UMary would battle back making it a one point set with a kill by Dani Highum to make it an 18-17 game. The Warriors would go on a run to end set one, led by sophomore
Kenna Kornely and the final points coming from a block by
Abigail Savatski.
Set two:
Set number two began the same way between the Warriors and Marauders, seeing a one gap until 15-14 before UMary would go on to score nine straight points before finishing the set out 17-25.
Set three:
The Warriors would see early points coming from
Quinn Robak,
Kenna Kornely, and a service ace from
Abby Ongna to put the Warriors down 7-9. The Marauders would be too much to handle in set number three taking a 13-21 lead with a kill from Dani Highum. But, don't count out WSU they would go on a 13-4 run to take the set in thrilling fashion 27-25.
Set four:
Set number four saw WSU take an early 7-4 lead with a block by
Abigail Savatski and
Sidney Paulson, but the Marauders wouldn't back down taking the lead from a
Jayda Berg attacking error at 12-13. UMary would go on a 9-1 run, taking a 13-20 lead and finishing out the set 22-25 with a block from Holli Klettheimer.
Set five:
The final set would be a thriller, battling points for point with kills coming from
Gianna Vollrath,
Kenna Kornely and
Sidney Paulson, taking an early 9-7 lead. The Marauders wouldn't back down though, tying the game back up 11-11 with a kill from Maddie Cooper. Set number five and the match would conclude with a kill coming from sophomore
Quinn Robak, winning 15-13
Winona State (9-7, 2-3 NSIC) is next in action on Saturday, October, 5 at 11am against Minot State (1-11, 0-5 NSIC) to conclude their NSIC road trip to North Dakota.
