CROOKSTON, Minn. - The Winona State University Warriors end their first NSIC road trip with a win against Minnesota Crookston.
The Warriors started the first half of the game strong collecting three shots in goal by
Jacey Sturek,
Faith Quinn, and
Sarah Strating putting the Golden Eagles to the test defensively, but were unable to find the back of the net.
Alyson Jumper and the rest of the Warrior defense was tested as well as Jumper was able to collect two saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless through 45 minutes.
Going into the second half, the WSU offense came out determined have the ball find the back of the net. Just over 4 minutes into the second half,
Julia Kunz started that charge with a shot on goal, but was saved by the UMC goalie. But the Warrior were not done there,
Chloe Turner found the back of the net off of a pass from
Kyleigh Jannisch less than 3 minutes later to put Winona State up 1-0. The Warriors were putting the Golden Eagles' defense to the test by collecting six shots on goal before scoring again. Pushing the 81 minute mark,
Quinn Williams was able to head the ball into the back of the net off of a corner kick by Sturek to extend the lead 2-0 with just over 9 minutes left in play.
Closing out the game Sturek collected her fourth assist of the season with Turner collecting her second goal of the season as well.
Quinn Williams was able to collect her first goal of the season and Jumper collecting her second shut out as well. WSU collected a season high of 16 shots and 13 of those falling on goal.
The Warriors will be back on the road next weekend playing against the University of Sioux Falls on Friday, October 11 at 2 p.m. and ending the weekend at Minnesota State on Sunday, October 13 at 1 p.m.
