WINONA, Minn. – Winona State football will look to build off success as they host the University of Mary for Homecoming on Saturday, October 12th at 2:00pm in Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium.
The Warriors (2-3, 2-2 NSIC) defeated MSUM by a score of 33-6 last week, controlling all three phases of the game to earn a convincing victory. UMary (1-5, 0-5 NSIC) dropped a heartbreaker at home to CSP, losing 19-13 in double overtime.
Winona State is on an eight-game win streak against the Marauders, including a 17-7 victory in Bismark, ND last season. The last time the two teams competed in Winona, the Warriors picked up a 25-17 win in 2022.
Winona State invites all fans to participate in the Warrior Game Day Experience, beginning at 11:00am at the intersection of Johnson and Mark streets on the campus of WSU.
Winona State Notes:
- Winona State dominated MSU Moorhead last week, winning 33-6.
- The Warriors defense held the Dragons offense to just 230 yards passing, which is over 140 yards less than MSUM's average.
- Winona State forced three turnovers as Brent Jeske and Nick Bucaro eached grabbed an interception, and Voshon Porte forced a fumble that was recovered by Aidan Boehle.
- Jackson Flottmeyer made his first career start and went 13-18 passing with 107 yards and a TD and added 87 yards rushing on 17 attempts.
- Josh Buri ran nine times and picked up 80 yards, including a 51 yard scamper for a score against MSUM.
- Sylvere Campbell hauled in a touchdown pass and totaled six receptions for 77 yards last week.
- Winona State has the second best pass defense in the NSIC, allowing just 167.2 yards through the air to opponents per game.
- The Warriors are the third best team in the league at forcing 4th downs. WSU holds opponents to a 34.4% 3rd down conversion rate.
- Following this week's game, the Warriors travel to Augustana for a 1:00pm kickoff in Sioux Falls, SD on Saturday, October 19.
University of Mary Notes:
- UMary holds a 1-5 record this season with their only win coming against future NSIC member, University of Jamestown.
- The Marauders are averaging 16 points/game and allow an average of 29.83 points per game.
- Sofian Massoud is the main quarterback for UMary, averaging 171.83 yards/game through the air and passing for 5 TDs this season.
- Mujeeb Rufai is the main receiving target, catching 32 passes for 355 yards and averaging 59.17 yards per game.
- Jeremiah Moore is the leading rusher, gaining 13.33 yards/game. Four Marauders rush for double-digit yards per game.
- UMary throws for an average of 175.5 yards/game and runs for 43.3 yards/game.
