Warrior Game Day: Women's Basketball

WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University women's basketball team looks to continue their win streak with a contest against Northern State University at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16 at Wachs Arena in Aberdeen, S.D. 

Winona State (8-16, 7-12 NSIC) will face Northern State University (17-7, 13-5 NSIC) in their final road game of the regular season.   

 The matchup will be the second time the two teams have faced off in the 2023-24 season, with . Last season Northern State reached the second round of the NSIC Tournament, losing to Augustana in the second round. Most recently, NSU is coming off a win against Minnesota Crookston 83-68. 

WINONA STATE STORYLINES  

  • WSU is 8-16 on the year, 7-12 in NSIC play. 
  • Alex Dornfeld was named to the NSIC Shining Five this past week. 
  • WSU is shooting 38.0% as a team from the floor.
  • The Warriors are averaging 57.2 points/game and conceding 63.7 points per outing.     
  • Leading the Warriors on the season is Olivia Gamoke with 9.4 points per game.    
  • Alex Dornfeld leads the team in rebounding at 7.7 rpg.   
  • Dornfeld had an impressive weekend averaging 14 points and 12 rebounds last weekend. 
  • Gamoke averages 30.3 minutes per game this season. 
  • Emma Carpenter leads the team in 3-pointers on the season with 33

  • Carpenter leads the team in steals (17) on the year. 
  • Head coach Ana Wurtz is in her second season at Winona State. 

Northern State STORYLINES

  • The Wolves enter the weekend at 17-7 overall and 13-5 in the NSIC.    

  • Northern State enters the weekend ranked 2nd in the NSIC, looking to earn a bye for the first round of playoffs. 

  • Winona State holds a 12-12 record vs. NSU dating back to January 21, 2011.

  • WSU fell to NSU earlier this year 58-85, back on January 6 this year.     

  • NSU is 2-3 in their last five games.   

  • The Wolves won 85-54 against Minnesota Crookston in their most recent action.      

  • As a team, NSU is shooting 42.5% from the floor and 73.8% at the line.      

  • NSU hits 31.4% of their three-point attempts.     

  • Madelyn Bragg is averaging 18.8 points per game and 6.7 rebounds per game for the Wolves.
