Winona State football announces Spring Game info, staff additions

WINONA, Minn. – Winona State University head football coach Brian Bergstrom has announced changes within the Warrior coaching staff this week as WSU prepares for the annual Spring Game, set for Saturday, April 20, in Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium.

Joining the Winona State staff and serving as the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach will be Charlie Cosgrove. Cosgrove has coached at NCAA Division III Gustavus Adolphus since 2010, including serving as the assistant head coach for the Gusties since 2016. Cosgrove also has experience as a graduate assistant at St. Cloud State University.

About Cosgrove, coach Bergstrom said, "We are thrilled to have Coach Cosgrove join our football staff and family.  It has been so rewarding to watch Charlie grow since his time as a player at Saint Cloud State University, to coaching with him at Gustavus Adolphus College, to now reuniting with him again at Winona State University.  He will bring energy, expertise, and experience to our OL and offense.  He is a first-class man, husband, dad, friend, and coach.  He has an amazing support staff at home and will be joined in Winona by his wife (Liz) and three children (Luella, Vincent, Gordon)."

Also joining the Warrior staff this spring is AJ Parnell, who will serve as the quarterbacks coach for Winona State. Parnnell most recently coached at MIAC power Bethel University.  Parnell served as the Royals offensive coordinator since 2021 and was a part of a staff that led the team to a 50-18 record with Parnell on staff.

Coach Bergstrom noted,"Coach Parnell is a talented leader, mentor, coach, and teacher of the game.  He has experience as a head coach and offensive coordinator and we can't wait to have him guide our Quarterbacks on and off the field.   He has been impacted by amazing coaches, student-athletes, and programs in his successful coaching career.  He and his family (Kristi) and sons (Mason and Landry) will be outstanding additions to our WSU Football Family."

The new-look Warrior staff will be on the sideline on Saturday, April 20, at the annual Warrior spring game. The WSU offense and defense will square off in Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium at 1 p.m. The Warrior Game Day Experience is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on campus.  The Warrior Spring Game is free of charge and open to the public.
