BURNSVILLE, Minn. - Winona State University women's basketball standout
Alex Dornfeld has been named to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) All-Conference Second Team, as announced by the league.
Dornfeld, a senior from Markesan, Wis., was a force on both the defensive and offensive ends of the court for head coach
Ana Wurtz and a key component in the Winona State 2023-24 campaign.
Dornfeld recorded seven double-doubles in the 2023-24 season and notched a season-best 17 points versus Minnesota Crookston on Feb. 24. Dornfeld also twice registered a season high-water mark of 14 rebounds, a feat achieved against both St. Cloud State on Jan. 27 as well as in the NSIC postseason at MSU Moorhead on Feb. 28.
Dornfeld led Winona State in averaging 7.7 rebounds a game; Dornfeld collected 41 offensive rebounds and 160 defensive boards, landing her fourth in the NSIC rebounding ranks. Dornfeld was second overall on the team for scoring, averaging 9.3 points a game and racked up 19 steals and six blocks on the year. At the beginning of the season, Dornfeld was tabbed the Winona State Player-to-Watch in the 2023-24 NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Dornfeld also earned NSIC Shining Five Honors for her performance in Week 13, helping WSU defeat Augustana 64-52 and Wayne State 70-59 in McCown Gymnasium, home of WNB Financial Court.
Regarding Winona State records, Dornfeld sits 11th all-time in the WSU record book in career rebounds, collecting 601 total boards in her career. Dornfield had 14 double-double games as a Warrior.
Winona State (10-18, 9-13 NSIC) earned a 4-2 mark over the final six games of the season and qualified for an NSIC opening round playoff berth. WSU was dealt a 72-67 setback at MSU Moorhead on Wednesday, February 28, concluding the Warrior season.
