Carly Moon captures NSIC medalist honors, WSU earns runner up finish as a team

SMITHVILLE, Mo. Winona State standout Carly Moon earned individual medalist honors at the 2024 NSIC Women's Golf Tournament in Smithville, Mo., on Sunday. Moon led her team to a runner-up finish at Paradise Pointe. Moon became the first Winona State women's golfer to win the event since Morgan Proshek won the award in 2007.

Moon carded rounds of 72-72-77 to finish at 221, 5-over-par, battling back from a third-place spot after day one to gain and hold the lead in the final 48 hours of the event. In addition to taking the individual championship, the senior from Baraboo, Wisconsin, was part of a Warrior squad that tallied rounds of 308-305-32 for an overall score of 939.

Moon earned All-Tournament honors, joining four players from Augustana and one from Concordia-St. Paul in the top five.  Winona State and head coach Jeff Straight saw Toni Baldwin join Moon in the top-10, with Baldwin finishing in a tie for eighth overall with an 18-over-par 234 (76-78-80). Ellie Behring had the third-best Warrior score at 239 (79-77-83, +23), while WSU teammate Kessa Mara tallied 245 (81, 78, 86, +29).  Rachel Henderson rounded out the Winona State scorecard with a 253 (82, 83, 88, +37). WSU joined Augustana, Wayne State and Minnesota State as the only teams to have all five entrants finish in the top 30 of the tournament.

Moon joined four other Winona State standouts in earning NSIC medalist honors in the history of the program. Over the course of 30 NSIC championships beginning in 1988, WSU has had Morgan Proshek (2007), Erika Ochs (2000), Emily Cylkoswski (1997) and Tina Peek (1995, 1996) claim top honors.

Adding to the impressive weekend for the Winona State team was Rachel Henderson, who earned the 2024 Elite 18 Award in women's golf. Henderson had the highest GPA of any participating player in the championship; read more about the NSIC Women's Golf Elite 18 Award at this link.

Moon and the Winona State squad will now turn their collective attention to the 2024 NCAA Division II women's golf championship selections which will be released via a press release on Monday, April 29,  on NCAA.com. Selected teams and individuals will start with regionals from May 6-8 and conclude with final site at the Orange County National Golf Center in Orlando, Florida from May 21-25.
