WSU VOLLEYBALL HEAD COACH JOE GETZIN ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT; KRISTINE PELKY TO LEAD THE WARRIORS

WINONA, Minn. – After leading the Winona State volleyball program since 2014, Joe Getzin has announced his retirement. Kristine Pelky, who has been on staff since 2019, will be the head coach for the 2025 season.

Getzin will retire with a .670 winning percentage at Winona State, which is first all-time. Getzin tallied 197 wins in 10 seasons with the Warriors and led WSU to eight NSIC Tournaments and two NCAA Regionals.

The 2016 campaign was historic for Winona State as the Warriors reached the NCAA Division II Regional for the first time in program history. WSU went 27-6 overall and 16-4 in the NSIC. In 2021, Getzin led the Warriors back to the NCAA Tournament after finishing runner-up in both the NSIC regular season and the NSIC Tournament with a 28-5 overall record.

"I wish Joe and A all the best in retirement," said Winona State Athletic Director Eric Schoh. "Joe has done an amazing job with our volleyball program over the past 10 years in competition, the classroom, and the community. He truly will be missed."

Pelky joined the Warrior coaching staff in 2019 and has been a key part to Winona State's success. Pelky was pivotal in leading Winona State back to the NCAA Tournament in 2021 and has coached WSU to four NSIC Tournament appearances.

Pelky has been instrumental in tutoring 10 NSIC All-Conference players and three All-Americans. Off the court, Pelky has assisted in leading the Warriors to earn the AVCA Team Academic award for five straight years.

As a Cheyenne, Wyoming native, Pelky was a volleyball student-athlete at the University of Sioux Falls and has seen coaching stints as the Sanford Sports Academy Head Coach, Sioux Falls Graduate Assistant, and Capital Volleyball Academy Head Coach. Pelky will look to continue a strong Winona State volleyball tradition during the 2025 season.

"I would first like to thank Joe for an outstanding experience for the past six years, it has been a privilege to serve as his assistant coach," remarked Pelky. "I would like to also thank the administration for their support of me and providing me this opportunity. I am excited to continue the culture that Joe has created in Warrior Volleyball with this outstanding group of young women!"
