WINONA, Minn. - Winona State University men's golfer
Peyton Coahran earned co-medalist honors at the U.S. Open Local Qualifying after shooting a 69 (-2), advancing him to the U.S. Open Final Qualifying.
Local qualifying for the U.S. Open took place at Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minn. featuring 84 golfers playing for four spots to advance to final qualifying. Coahran came out strong, beginning on the 10th hole on Monday, carding consecutive birdies on holes 13 and 14 before he would get to hole 18 and have a tap-in birdie. With nine holes left to play, Coahran bogeyed the fourth hole to bring him back to 2-under, but a massive 30-foot putt on hole seven would bring him right back to 3-under. On the final hole of Coahran's day, he carded a bogey to finish with a share of the lead at 69 (-2).
Final qualifying begins on May 19 and will conclude with "The Longest Day in Golf" on June 2 to determine the final field for this year's national championship. The 2025 U.S. Open is set to be played June 12-15 at historic Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa.
