WSU VOLLEYBALL COMES UP SHORT AT #13 CSP

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Winona State volleyball suffered a 3-1 setback and dropped their first NSIC match of the season at No. 13 Concordia-St. Paul.
 
CSP took the opening set 25-20, but Winona State answered right back to win the following set 25-21. The Warriors carried a lead late into the third set, but the Golden Bears rallied to win 25-22 and carried the momentum to clinch the match with a 25-14 fourth set win.
 
How it Happened:
Concordia-St. Paul forced nine WSU hitting errors and capitalized on .225 hitting and six blocks in the opening set to take a 1-0 match lead. In the second set, Winona State's defense and serving led them to tie up the match at one apiece. The Warriors served four aces and held CSP to .122 hitting in the set.
 
Winona State held the upper hand throughout the third set, taking multiple four-point leads and holding a 19-15 advantage late in the set. Concordia St. Paul battled back and rallied off the sets final four points to win 25-22. The Golden Bears used the momentum to jump out to an 8-2 lead in the fourth and never looked back. CSP hit .500 in the fourth set with 16 kills and just two errors to close out the match.
 
Statistical Comparison:
  • Kenna Kornely grabbed 10 kills and 14 digs to pick up her fifth double-double of the season.
  • Jaci Winchell dished out 20 assists and 11 digs.
  • Anna Hennessy led the Warriors with 23 digs.
  • Gianna Vollrath tallied five total blocks in the match.
  • WSU hit .080 on the evening with nine aces and six blocks.
  • CSP hit .239 with five aces and 15 blocks.
 
Winona State (7-4, 2-1 NSIC) will gear up for a weekend trip to UMary and Minot State for matches this Friday and Saturday.
