BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Winona State men's golf holds a two-stroke advantage over the field after the first round of the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Central/Midwest Regional at the Katke Golf Club in Big Rapids, Mich.
The Warriors, who were in the final pairings of the frost-delayed opening round, closed out day one with a team score of 284 (-4) to lead all 20 teams competing in the event. Grand Valley State sits in second with a 286 (-2) while Arkansas Tech and Missouri-St. Louis are at 293 (+5).
Peyton Coahran leads the Warriors after firing seven birdies en route to a four-under 68. Coahran is just one stroke off the leaders heading into the second round.
Javier Ramos Casariego is tied for sixth individually after shooting a 70 (-2), which included 12 pars.
Max Jericho also tallied a dozen pars on his scorecard and mixed in a trio of birdies and bogeys to finish day one with an even-par 72.
Luke Maas is just two strokes back after shooting a 74 (+2) while
Logan Chouinard carded a 78.
Winona State will tee off beginning at 11:30am tomorrow for the second of three rounds at Katke Golf Club. The top four teams from the Central/Midwest regional will advance to the NCAA DII Men's Golf Championships.
