WINONA, Minn. –
Liz Pautz turned in a 3-0 pitching performance in the first full week of action for the Winona State University softball team and earned the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Pitcher of the Week award in the process.
Pautz was practically untouchable at times in contests against NAIA power Grand View University, Pittsburg State University and Drury University over the week of February 14 - 20. Winona State went 4-2 over that time period, with Pautz throwing three complete games including a 9-0 shutout versus Pittsburg State on Saturday, Feb. 19.
Pautz, a senior from Pulaski, Wis., racked up strikeout totals rarely seen, with strong efforts yielding 13 strikeouts against Grand View, 16 against Pittsburg State and 13 in the Warriors' game against Drury. For the week, Pautz racked up 21 innings pitched, allowed just three earned runs, walked four and struck out 42 batters.
Winona State and Pautz return to action this weekend when they head to Romeoville, Illinois, where they will participate in the Lewis University Tournament on Friday, Feb. 25 through Sunday, Feb. 27.
