Warrior ReWind

Winona, Minn.- While most of the NCAA sports world is waiting to resume, fans and followers of Winona State Athletics can still stay connected to their favorite teams with the Warrior ReWind series.

Warrior ReWind stories seek to highlight notable performances by WSU teams, student-athletes, and coaches throughout the course of the proud history of Winona State Athletics. Stay tuned over the next several weeks, as we revisit Warrior points of pride from competitions involving all 14 WSU varsity athletic programs.

Earlier this year,  Warrior volleyball student-athlete Megan Flom added her name to the elite list of WSU volleyball honors by earning 2019 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II All-American recognition. Flom's balanced effort was reflected not only in offensive output, hitting .443 in NSIC play, but as a defensive standout as well, evidenced by her 77 total blocks and 21 solo blocks on the year.  Off the court, Flom was equally impressive,  earning CoSIDA Academic All-District for her work in the classroom.  Read more on Flom's fantastic season at this link.

As a team, the Warriors went 21-8 overall and finished 13-7 in NSIC action, with a Conference schedule that featured a gauntlet of nationally-ranked programs.

With a record book dating back to the 1973 season, read on for some more highlights from the Winona State volleyball historical chronicles.

Warrior Volleyball 2019 Highlights:

Megan Flom registered 358 kills in the 2019 campaign, which stands as a career-best for the junior from Kenyon, Minn.

Bre Maloney was the catalyst for the Warrior offense, racking up 1085 assists over the course of the season; she was also second on the team in Digs with 260.

In the course of the season Winona State lost back-to-back matches only once; a pair of road contests at SCSU and UMD.  In contrast, the Warriors enjoyed winning streaks of eight-straight, four-straight, and three-straight strings of 'W's at different stages during the season.

Becca Pagel had 465 digs in 2019, to lead her team in that category, while notching 26 service aces as well, No. 2 overall in the squad.

Winona State
took care of business in short order often in 2019; the Warriors hung 3-0 scorelines on 12 victims of their 21 wins, including four programs that were nationally ranked at the time of the match.

Head coach Joe Getzin saw his squad rise to as high as No. 16 in the national rankings in 2019, one of nine NSIC teams to crack the top 20 this past fall. In addition, early-season opponent the University of Illinois-Springfield was 'Receiving Votes' in September when Winona State dispatched them twice in two days; 3-2 on Sept. 6 and 3-0 on Sept. 7.

Winona State ran the table at the UW-Parkside Hampton Inn Invitational tournament, defeating McKendree University, Quincy University, Purdue-Northwest, and host UW-P over the course of September 13-14, 2019.

More Fun Facts:

Stephanie Rieder owns the Warrior career kill record, with 1,720 between earned between the 1991-1994 seasons.

In terms of solo blocks, Britta Hofman set the Winona State all-time mark with 125 between 2000 and 2003; the block assist career record is held by Karyn Zuhlsdorf, with 318 over the course of the 1996-99 seasons.

On October 10, 1993, Winona State's Amy Ball dished out an amazing 87 assists in a match against Northern State, which stands as the Warrior single-match record in that category.
