WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University football team knocked off No. 11 University of Sioux Falls on Saturday, and a Warrior defensive standout was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Football Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts.
Mitch Snitker a defensive back from Waukon, Iowa was tabbed for the impressive honor, having been a key part of a WSU defensive unit that shut down the Cougar offense last Saturday.
Snitker had 13 total tackles - including 11 solo stops - against USF, with many of his best stops in the open field. The junior DB helped hold the Cougars to just 68 yards on the ground in the game.
Snitker and Winona State now turn their attention to Augustana University as WSU hosts the Vikings in their final regular season home game on Saturday, Oct. 29. Winona State and Augustana will kick off at 1 p.m. in Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium on Senior Day.
Snitker's honor marks the second Winona State player to earn Player of the Week status in 2022. Placekicker
Jacob Scott was named the NSIC Special Teams Player of the Week earlier this fall following a performance in which he hit four field goals over 40 yards in a 40-7 win over Minnesota State - Moorhead.
