MANKATO, Minn. – The Winona State University women's track and field team opened their 2022-23 season at the Chuck Petersen Open, where
Shereen Vallabouy highlighted WSU's day with a facility record in the 400-meter dash.
Vallabouy picked up right where she left off last season, winning the 400m by nearly four seconds to set the Myers Field House record on the campus of Minnesota State Mankato, with a time of 54.41 seconds.
Lainey Lipschultz earned an eighth-place finish in the same event with a time of 1:00.73.
In a field with some of top runners in the country,
Brooklyn Schyvinck earned a runner-up finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.28 seconds.
Courtney Lukas made her collegiate debut today and finished the 200m in 27.27, good for 12th place.
WSU had two runners on the podium in the 600-meter run as
Regan Feit and
Alyssa Larson finished in second and third place, respectively. Feit ran the race in 1:37.66 while Larson finished with a time of 1:41.38.
In the 60-meter dash,
Xana Leum finished in fourth with a time of 9.01 seconds.
Hanna Reichenberger was right behind, running the 60 meters in 9.05 seconds and finishing in sixth.
Mari Mohling began her collegiate career earning a fourth-place finish in the high jump. Mohling cleared the bar at 1.59 meters in her debut.
Ashlie Lockington and
Kaylee Patnode each competed in the long jump. Lockington jumped 5.11 meters to finish in 10th and Patnode took 11th place at 5.09 meters.
In the triple jump, WSU had four athletes in the top six. Leum led the way with a second-place finish at 11.86 meters. Reichenberger jumped 11.76 meters to finishg third, while Lockington came in at fourth with distance of 11.42 meters.
Daria Tersina jumped 11.05 to finish sixth and round out the Warrior scoring in the event.
The Warriors finished the day by winning the 4x400 meter relay in convincing fashion. Feit, Lipschultz, Schyvinkc, and Vallabouy teamed up to win the race with a time of 3:51.2.
As a team, Winona State finished in second place as Minnesota State took first place team honors at their home event.
