WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University volleyball team, ranked No. 25 in the AVCA poll, is headed to Carson, Calif. for a nonconference tournament hosted by Cal State Dominguez Hills.
In the Toro Classic, the Warriors will play Stanislaus State and Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday, Sept. 2 at 12:30pm PST and 4:30pm PST, and then will wrap up the tournament with a match against Western Colorado on Saturday at 11:00am PST.

WINONA STATE STORYLINES
- Winona State remained in the AVCA Poll after going 2-2 during week one. WSU is ranked No. 25 and is the only two-loss team found in the rankings.
- The Warriors opened their season with a pair of straight-set losses, but won both matches on Saturday, over Drury and Oklahoma Baptist, to finish the CSP Invitational with a 2-2 record.
- Sidney Paulson was named to the SCSU/CSP All-Tournament Team after recording 41 kills and 40 digs, including a pair of double-doubles.
- Madison Larson leads WSU with 51 kills and 3.40 kills per set with a .269 attack percentage.
- First-year Jaci Winchell showed poise during her first collegiate matches, being the main facilitator during Winona State's two victories, tallying 92 assists and two double-doubles.
- Casey Volkmann, the Warriors libero, has averaged 4.27 digs per set and recorded 25 digs during the win over Oklahoma Baptist.
Stanislaus State STORYLINES
- The Warriors opened their season with a 3-1 record at the Magic Island Hawaii Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii.
- Stanislaus State is led by first year head coach Lauren Flowers, who was named to the AVCA 30 under 30 award program in 2021.
- Ellison Weaver leads the Warriors with 34 total kills for an average of 2.62 kills per set.
- Stanislaus State runs their rotation with two setters, where Haley Burdo and Eyriana Eatmon each average over three assists per set.
- Gabby Rawson has averaged 5.00 digs each set to lead the team.
Cal State Dominguez Hills STORYLINES
- The Toros opened their season at the Otter Invitational last weekend, and finished with a 2-1 record where their lone loss was to No. 23 Michigan Tech.
- Jennifer Adeva is in her 12th season as the head coach of CSDH.
- Cassie Taylor and Camila Sanchez-Tellez are the main offensive threats for the Toros, each averaging over 2.40 kills per set.
- Angelina Cabal and Mya Tillman work the two-setter rotation and each average over 3.50 assists per set.
- Macy Kirkwood has tallied 11 total blocks this season to lead CSDH.
Western Colorado STORYLINES
- The Mountaineers opened their season winless at the Oredigger Volleyball Classic, where they were swept in all four matches.
- Western Colorado fell to two NSIC foes in No. 22 Southwest Minnesota State and Northern State during their opening weekend.
- Eric Ballelos is in his first year at the helm for the Mountaineers after being named the new head coach for Western Colorado in April 2022.
- Hailee Martinez and Lexi Wilmoth have nearly identical stats at the setter position, with Martinez recording 45 assists and Wilmoth adding 43.
- Caroline Parker is the only Mountaineer to average over two kills per set, as she is at 2.08 with 25 total kills this season.
WARRIOR NOTABLES:
- Earlier this summer, Winona State earned it's 16th consecutive AVCA Team Academic Award.
- The Warriors continue their streak of being ranked in every AVCA weekly poll dating back to week one of last season.
- Winona State is one of six Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schools featured in the top 25 of this week's national rankings.
- Joe Getzin eclipsed the 150-win mark as the WSU head coach last weekend and he currently sits at 345 career wins overall, needing five more to reach win number 350.
