MANKATO, Minn. - The Winona State University women's track and field team recorded five individual championships at Minnesota State in the Bearson-Gathje Classic on Friday, Jan. 13, propelling the Warrior team to a runner-up finish with 99 points overall.
Shereen Vallabouy,
Regan Feit,
Kaylee Beyer and
Lindsay Cunningham all took top honors in their respective events - include a pair of championships by Beyer - to help WSU towards an impressive top-of-the-podium tally.
Vallabouy set a facility record in the 400-meters with a time of 53.47, breaking her own mark of 54.41 set earlier this season on Dec. 3. In addition to Vallabouy's record-setting effort,
Kaylee Beyer won the women's one-mile race at 5:00.44 and the women's 800 with a time of 2:20.09.
Lindsay Cunningham won the women's 3000 with a time of 9:35.58, also a facility record, building off of her elite WSU cross country season in which she finished as the NCAA Division II Cross Country runner-up and earned NSIC and NCAA Regional Championships.
Beyer's two times were both meet records in Mankato and positioned her as the only two-event champion in the competition.
Regan Feit joined Beyer in setting a meet record, with her 1:39.05 in the 600-meters putting her just ahead of Haleigh Reindl of Minnesota Duluth at 1:40.31.
WSU's
Brooklyn Schyvinck earned a runner-up finish in the 400-meters with a time of 58.00 and
Sophia Taarud took third place in the women's one mile at 5:15.47. As a team, WSU's 99 points put the squad comfortably ahead of NSIC foes St. Cloud State (60) and Minnesota Duluth (42). The host Mavericks won the event with 313 points.
Winona State is next in action on Jan. 21 at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse.
