CHICAGO, Ill. - The Winona State University track and field team traveled to Chicago, Illinois to take part in the Lewis Invitational at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Center in Gately Park on Friday, Feb. 3. There, head coach Mason Rebarchek and his team saw a collection of strong performances, including new school records in the women's mile run and the 400 meters.
In the mile, Beyer broke away from the field to finish first and posted a time of 4:50.19, the best-ever WSU time in the event, displacing her previous record of 4:50.74. Beyer also earned a runner up finish in the 800-meters, turning in a time of 2:13.54, just behind Tiffin's Ines Macadam who won the event at 2:12.36, and just ahead of Erin Dorn of Davenport who ran a 2:13.65.
Claiming top honors for Winona State was Shereen Vallabouy, winning the 400-meter race with a time of 52.87. The time was the fastest 400 in WSU history, with Vallabouy breaking her own previous record time of 53.47.
Vallabouy - the reining NCAA Division II indoor 400-meter champion - also anchored the WSU 4X400 relay team which won their event with a time of 3:46.20. Joining Vallabouy on the podium in the 4X400 relay championship were Warrior teammates Regan Feit, Alyssa Larson and Brooklyn Schyvinck.
Individually, Schyvinck took runner-up honors, posting a time of 24.94 in the 200 meters. Lewis University took first place through Khristel Martindale (24.69) and third place via Rose Ogbuli (25.13).
McKenna Taylor earned third place in the women's 3,000-meter run (10:09.03) and Xana Leum was third in the women's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9:05. In the field events, Winona State's top performer was also Leum, earning fourth place in the triple jump with a mark of 11.45 meters (37'-6.75").
Winona State is next in action in a two-day event that begins on Friday, February 10, where the Warriors wwill e competing at Minnesota State. The competition one of two final regular season meets prior to the NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships, scheduled for Friday, Feb. 24, and Saturday, Feb. 25.
