DES MOINES, Iowa -
Lindsay Cunningham ran a time of 15.45.91 in the seeded women's 5,000-meter race at the 2023 Drake Relays on Thursday, April 28, in Drake Stadium.
Cunningham's mark establishes a new Winona State record in the event, displacing her old record of 16:05.36, achieved in 2022. The Wisconsin Dells, Wis. junior was the highest-finishing collegiate runner in the 2023 Drake Relay 5,000-meter race, finishing as the runner-up to Xiuzhen Ma of China, who ran a 15:43.92 to claim top honors.
Cunningham's time also establishes a new top mark in the 2023 NCAA Division II track and field settings, far surpassing the previous standard set by Florance Uwajeneza of West Texas A&M at 16:07.13, set earlier this spring.
Winona State will continue to compete at the 113th Drake Relays on Friday, April 28 with
Brooklyn Schyvinck and
