Michael A. Huettl had a short ride from Lake City, MN to the campus of Winona State University, but it proved to be beneficial for both the university and its baseball program.
Baseball has always been strong at WSU and Huettl is one of the many players who built the reputation of the program over the years.
Hitting was a strong point for Huettl, as he led the Warriors in batting during his four-year career at WSU. He finished with an impressive .345 career mark and remains in the top ten of nine Warrior hitting categories.
During his four years with the Warriors, WSU compiled a 110-54 record for a .671 winning percentage and would win two conference and three NAIA District 13 championships.
Huettl continued his hitting exploits with a semiprofessional team in Eau Claire, WI and added to his outside interests by winning a national paddleball B Class doubles championship in 1999.
The success Huettl attained at WSU has led him to give back to the community through volunteer work for youth programs, American Cancer Society, United Cerebral Palsy and, in the process, it allowed him to continue as a big hitter by developing his sporting goods business to expand to national sales.
